Chess in comparison With Go

That's not a very elaborate comparison. Why do you like Chess more than Go?

I tend to play chess by intuition (which at my level is more reckless whimsy than anything). Go seems to jive much better in that regard. I feel like I'm painting rather than solving a puzzle, even though both Chess and Go are made of art and logic.

Go definitely seems a lot more chaotic, especially during one's first games. You have a gargantuan number of choices without much immediate feedback on what's right or wrong.

I guess it depends on how you look at infinity. In a literal sense, there are far more possible games of Go than of Chess--and each of those games lasts far longer. A lot of that, though, has to do with the size of the board, and I'm probably being too literal anyway.

I agree. Chess is what happens when purpose meets possibility. It's a spectre of light on a cloudy day in London when all of the stores are closed, and you cant find your way home. It's what you get when you take everything you love about autumn, skiing, vanilla lattes, poetry, Ferraris and the human soul, and put it all together in one game. In short, it's fermented perfection.

Macer75, you are either a purveyor of the most poetic BS I have seen on this forum, or a wordsmith worthy of the highest praise.

Hi ! For me Chess is not only a beautiful intellectual game. When you play a lot, it brings an atmosphere, some beautiful music, good red wine ... from east Europe perhaps (all that in my mind !!), or UK, or Germany, something close to Romantism (Maybe Paris). I used to imagine Vassily Ivantshuk, playing in a Café in East Europe, where good musicians play, and where some beautiful ladies, are not so far ... ;-) I am not sure Go brings such atmosphere ...

I've always wanted to learn Go, seems like a very interesting game, although I think Chess is a much more aesthetically pleasing game. To me there is a beauty in chess that is impossible to replicate in other games created by humans.

I prefer chess over go because I haven't played Go and Chess has different pieces that move so differently but can work together in a coordinated attack

While I personally prefer playing chess, I think Go is an absolutely beautiful game. With only two pieces (white and black), an entire story unfolds that reveals how a player thinks and reasons. With chess, so often I see people (non Titled of course, they're at a different level and are truly creating new things) just going lines developed by their predecessors, but with Go I've taught people how to play and seen them really try to create a novel strategy. Now, mind, I am no amazing chess player, and I am even less so an amazing go player, and, as I said before, I enjoy chess more as a game for fun's sake. But I think Go is truly beautiful. I think chess is a beautiful game too, but Go tops it for me on a "which game employs more strategy and show's one's true nature" more.

Edit: Mind, I think it is likely that many of us come from a western background. I think it's entirely possible I would be a Go hobbyist instead of a chess player if I grew up in a different culture.
