chess is so boring, i picked up recently and i am glad i am done with it before i look back 40 years

He's got a point though. Online computer games have just as much strategy plus the chance to interact with other people (and blow things up). Millions watch them online, and the best players can make a good living from them. Seriously, 40 years from now chess may be on the same level as backgammon or mahjong. You don't know what mahjong is? - Exactly!

If you cannot find creativity in chess--it is best you stop playing.
says the one who mains bullet chess which is plain stupid
I do not even play bullet chess and do not maintain bullet chess is stupid.

@OP
First of all it is very important you pick your activities according to WHAT YOU REALLY ENJOY (and not what society advocates -- you won't care about that on your deathbed for sure). In any domain, you'll have to dedicate yourself a lot in order to do anything good. If you're passionate, you won't have the feeling to have wasted your time. It is only a waste of time if you don't enjoy.
I'm middle aged, have spent countless hours on chess and I plan to continue, I don't think I waste my time.
It is clear that if you don't like chess, you have to quit.
Now if you aren't quite sure about that, try to vary your experience as much as possible. Don't stick to the same openings again and again. Do tactics in order to improve your ability to trash out the other player. Study endgames and beautiful problems. And so on.

At your level chess probably isn't very interesting and unless you have some passion for the game, improvement is difficult. So probably a good move on your part to find something else to do with your spare time. Good luck...

My girlfriend plays mahjong (and she's British). It's HUGE in China, I believe.

I'm heading towards middle age. I have also spent many hours on chess, especially in the last two years, and I also plan to continue. Chess sucks you in. I tried to quit it in the past but couldn't. You keep learning new things and the more you play and study, the deeper you realise it is. I don't think it's "boring" unless you can play it (nearly) flawlessly, which very few here can.

To each their own. There are lots of games that are just not my thing. If you just watched a chess movie or something and decided you was the next Bobby Fischer, you probably found you are not very special on the board, so move on. If you quit at the first sign of diversity, its not your game. You have to accept losing is common and is the only way to get better.

Don't know why but I sort of heard your response in a Trump voice "So HUGE"
No, I don't know why either...

Your rating is below 1000... does such rating even exists????
Ah now I get it. You re chasing every sub 1000 player in the forums to do this joke. So it's your fav hobby when not playing chess. Ok got it.

Some years ago I had a friend who tried to learn chess while in grad school. He studied and practiced really hard and made it to about 1400. After a while he said to me, "Chess is not a fun game. You sit in a chair and torture yourself over the fate of some stupid pawn that really doesn't mean anything." Then he gave up.
I think he was right, though.

i am 21 and i picked up chess recently and i am already bored from it, its so boring, i am always ending up in the same positions because of theory, if i dont play these lines my oponnent gets into them if they are playing white, i am glad i quit now before i am 50 years old regretting wasting my young days obsessing over this stupid game, the only thing that sucks us into this game is the feeling of winning and destroying our opponent, there is no creativity in this game because everything is so predictable, just like what bobby fischer said it was a good game 200 years ago now it sucks
if you do not like it so much why do you have a chess.com acount?

I mostly agree. On the surface it seems like an intelligent game, but the more you play it the more you see that there is no imagination, but just memorizing: moves, patterns or creating intuition. For some reason I still like it.
Tactics are for sure something that I enjoy, since they provide you with an unlimited source of good problems and I really enjoy problem solving. But even with tactics, there many chess players, who have most of them memorized, which you can see it in how fast they solve hard 6 move problems, without calculating anything. Not to mention of blitz or bullet... where because of their small time limits, the game becomes almost exclusively a high speed memory challenge.
still enjoy it though, but I have other hobbies too

"Your rating is below 1000... does such rating even exists????"
Yes. Yes it does!
And I have quite a bit of fun having slap-fights across a chess board on a screen in my spare time. Bought my early 20's son a chess.com diamond membership - I may get myself one, too.
Lasker - one of them, I think the better chess playing one - summarized the notion at work here in his preface to Chess for Fun, Chess for Blood.
Chess for fun - it's a concept.
And one proposed by a chess player who could kick your ass in a game of chess.
Go figure.
Here's the quote from an online version of the book:

And, if you think that you have to be good at something to enjoy it -
Try spending time at a public golf course.
or having sex.

i am glad i quit now before i am 50 years old regretting wasting my young days obsessing over this stupid game, the only thing that sucks us into this game is the feeling of winning and destroying our opponent, there is no creativity in this game There is a whole lot of creativity in chess. But, probably it is not the game for you if you cannot see this.
because everything is so predictable, If so, you are doing something wrong.
just like what bobby fischer said it was a good game 200 years ago now it sucks For him it was a "good game 200 years ago" because back then the players were not proficient at chess. So bobby probably wished he could travel back in time so he could remain as World Champ for a very long time rather than to quit chess.
