Yes, download SCID or SCIDvsPC, create a new database, then import your PGN files.

Thank you, it looks promising. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow, since it's 3 a.m. already here.

If you have an iPad, you might try the new Chess Studio.

ajmeroski

Don't have an iPad, unfortunately :P And Chessbase isn't free, right? I'm gonna try that SCID thing now.

Chess Studio is for reading chess books, not for creating databases.

I'll ask once again, is Chessbase free?

There is a limited free version of CB Reader 12: http://www.chessbase.com/pages/download

DunnoItAll

No, Chessbase is not free.  There is chessbase reader and chessbase light, neither of which is full featured.  SCID and SCIDvsPC have full features and are both totally free.  I can't think of anything useful the full chessbase can do that SCID or SCIDvsPC can't do.  If you need help setting up your database or learning how to use SCID or SCIDvsPC, let me know.  I'll be happy to help.

Can SCID access the ChessBase Online database?

I do that every day with CB 11 (the software did cost me $150).

No, you have to download your DB to PC.

But Scid's a great programme, despite that.

ajmeroski

I'n guessing SCIDvsPC is probably better than SCID?

rooperi

I prefer Scid. In Scid vs PC there are too many windows floating around the screen, In Scid, everything is properly docked. I dont think there's much difference in functionality, if any.

Just my opinion.

DunnoItAll

SCIDvsPC has docked windows now, too.

I have tried Scid and ChessDB, none of them give the feel of Chessbase or Fritz.

DunnoItAll

And Chessbase doesn't give the "feel" of SCID and ChessDB.  That's just a matter of preference.

rooperi

I actually found Chessbase and Fritz very clumsy to work with.

I use my blog itself as a chess database. True it takes a little more time but its the most accessible way to managing games. With the help of chess.com remote interface, all my games or any famous games I input in my database, tag it and can search and find from any comptuer, anywhere I am in. And everything involved here is free. Just to see what I mean, please have a look at my chess blog - http://chess4you.blogspot.com/

I haven't built any index and instead is using tag to find games or simple default search engine of the blog. Its faster than any other way you can some up with in terms of finding some relevant games from your blog.

Bardu

Yeah, SCID vs PC is great. You can download games from TWIC and have an updated database whenever you feel like.

Chessbase is commercial software.

Tyrrhenus

This is online free (well, if you don't want the premium but I find it offers a good amount of space to 'store' your games
http://chessmicrobase.com/

you dont even need to create an account since you can just login with your Facebook, if you have an account there (and it does not post anything on FB or any other annoying behaviour)
