Hustler tables @ Downtown San Francisco, at Market and Powell.

Tricklev

Sweden - Gothenburg - City Library bottom floor.

Quite far from America though.

By the Depot in Mill Valley, Ca used to have players.

Agree about Market and Powell- although I don't really reccomend playing there.

Have heard there is chess at Dupont Circle in DC.

A pal from Team Catalonia told me people meet on Sundays in Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona to play on Sundays, though I haven't witnessed this myself.

Two condoms...over-protection.

I travel a bit. In many towns there are places where a visitor can play chess with strangers. If the weather is nice these games of "unprotected casual chess" are played outdoors in parks or plazas and are public. If you know of such a place, anywhere in the world please email me or post here. Thank you.

Examples are:

Philadelphia - Rittenhouse Square

Chicago - Oak Street Beach

Denver - Downtown 17th Street Mall

Cambridge, MA - Cafe just south on Harvard Square

New York - Washington Square

Hyde Park Sydney . Big set that you can walk around on the board as well

Fremantle - same as above.

Yes, those who practice unprotected chess are vulnerable to what they call "socially transmitted diseases", or STDs for short.

AndyClifton

Since we're talking chess though, I'm pretty sure it would be an antisocial disease.

St. Louis Chess Club has some tables outside. You can go inside once for free and they have day passes too. I have only been once (live too far away Cry) but it is a pretty nice place.
