Why Does Chess.com Keep Pairing Me With People 200-300 Points Lower Game After Game??

I keep trying to play blitz (3/2) with players of at least my rating (1700+) and I keep getting paired with people 200-300 points lower. How in the world is anyone suppose to improve their rating when I can't get a pairing with someone of at least the same rating?? This is seriously aggravating.

I tried setting challenges to the lowest setting -25 and it doesn't work. Are there so few active players on this site that someone over 1700+ can't get pairing with players of similar or higher ratings?? What's the deal chess.com??

I've only been on this site about three weeks and so far I only encounter problem after problem. Why does this site have to be so inefficient?? Why do people pay to play here when other sites are free and 100% more efficient than chess.com will ever be?!?!

I dunno, maybe because most people aren't at 1700 happy.png

Thanks for the complement, but it seems odd to me that there aren't enough intermediate players on the site at any given moment. Maybe chesscom is isolating non-paid members. This is just another reason why I detest this site. At this rate I'll probably quit the site soon and only keep the account to follow certain title players. Otherwise, I find the site utterly useless.

Thanks for the reply and good luck with your chess!

I've never had any issues with this and always get paired with people super close to my rating.

You're a diamond member. Is there an option on your end to only get pairings with other paid members? I think non-paid members are mostly paired against each other drastically reducing the pool of players with similar ratings.

Then what is this option for under "live chess?"

"Premium Only"

I played for a while without membership and since having it I've always just done the same thing and it's always worked the same. I simply just click play and have it pair me against someone. I've improve a bit over time so the average opponent rating I have is 100 lower than my rating but I always get matched against someone of similar rating.

I simply click play, I don't do custom settings or anything like that.

You are also the first person I see to have this issue, not sure why though. Do you play in live chess or the play online thing?

I definitely think the pool of players available to me as a non-paid member is very small to not get pairings within my rating range. I never have this problem on other sites.

I go to live chess and send out a challenge for the desired time control. Right now I'm working on my 3/2 rating but I keep getting paired with people as low as 1400+. I'm not going to continue playing here if I get paired mostly with lower rated players.

I know about that feature and thought you might mention it. A very small percentage of the user base actually uses that graph thing and even fewer will be actually using that premium members only feature. I've never used it or see/heard someone that does. Most people just quick search for a game.

From your last games it looks like it is pairing you quite fairly most of the time.

Yeah, then the next several pairings were all between low 1400s to low 1600s. After a few tries I stopped sending out challenges. As I said, I won't keep playing here if I keep getting paired with low rated players - that means I won't accept the challenge and it won't be on my record.

Since you took a screenshot of my games you can see at a glance that my rating is improving very rapidly which means I'm still underrated here. My bullet is close to my potential and my rapid rating has a ways to go with only one loss so far.

I appreciate you looking into the issue but I have no desire to hang out in the sub 1800 range for long.

I see, I've legit never heard of anyone have this issue. Maybe contact support or perhaps post in the help section of the forums as well.

Thanks again for taking a look. Good luck with your chess.

Check the settings. Adjust the seek rating range.

Whatnameisthis

I have the same problem most of the time and many times I dont even gain raiting.

Well, there is a setting that makes you get paired up with people your rating. Plus, a lot of the computers have 1700 rating.meh.png

I think this screenshot is the settings. Click "rated only".
