Gentleman's Game

Chess is a Gentleman's Game, with emphasis being on the key word game. I was playing one of our brothers from the land where the idea of Democracy was invented Greece. I had played this man before 6 times and lost. He had a 700 pt better score than me so I took my lumps. We got into a game and I started giving him a run for his money, then he writes, I don't know how you tricked me into playing a rated game, but I won't play you anymore. This pissed me off and I started to whip him naked, however I remember the key word GAME and rather than totally humiliate him and take his 14pts I resigned and informed him that I didn't trick him into anything nor was I trying, I asked him how old was he 10-11 because I informed him that he had a little maturing to do. REMEMBER, IT'S ONLY A GAME. We have people dying, geonocide, famine, whole Countries being exploited, aids,OPEC,China currency minipulation, American Bankers stealing and selling us out, the last thing I want to raise hell about is a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ game.

All games are for Gentlemen but unfortunately many are bad losers and get quite bitter.

Many years ago ( Im 69)  I was taught in school 'Manners maketh man'.

It is no shame to lose or make a silly mistake it does not reflect apon your character.

What will reflect badly on your character is bad sportsmanship.

Not just American bankers.

Losing in a game of chess is pride shattering.

chat is irrelevant to chess, the only thing important to chess is the game itself, not chat or rudeness etc

Unless the ones playing chess, consider this relevant like the OP

Why is it that in "Live Chess" rude comments seem to be the norm, while in the "On Line Chess" the conversation is generally polite or atleast clever? Seems that way to me on this site.

game of kings, played by knights and knaves, see how the forces must work together, cowards do not belong in battle, must obey orders since the clever king should win

Pas le temps est trop de fantaisie pour une belle femme.

On this guy's page he wrote that Chess is mad like him, unfortunately I didn't read his profile. I didn't cheat, trick, deceive, lure, intice or anything of that nature, it's just that when he found himself loosing he couldn't take it. That's why I asked how old was he. I thought it was an adolesent child sending me a message like that. This clown is at least 25yrs old or better. I suggested that he pick up a book and put down the joy stick, and the mouse for a while and go back to the page on how adults conduct themselves.

I would say that chess was always an academic trivia, later becoming a serious sport, and perhaps always a case for a bet, like any pub game such as cards but one where the winner is less important than the magical realm of variations and tactics and logic available for the players. Even Plato played chess over 2000 years ago, a philosopher, perhaps sitting in his garden with other philosophers. I am sure the ancient geeks would wish to earn respect for their ability with logic - a science studied in those days.

now chess is most commonly a cyber-duel, people take losing seriously for their ego depends on their rating.

I'm curious: is this a typo for greeks or did you really mean it? Quite interesting, as it fits either way.

And Joesims, after your opponent's childish display, you should have really crushed him - you were too kind to just another asshat. Next time, lower him to whichever hole he belongs into.

Thanks for noticing my deliberate typo, it is an artificial dyslexia.
