Getting to 800

So how can one get one's rating to 800 USCF/FIDE?  I'm not talking about on the internets.

What kind of skills does one need to master?  It is a lot harder than it looks.  Even people on here are rated like 300-500!

The first thing to learn is basic tactics... pins, forks, skewers, guard destruction, deflection, and so on. Then learn how to put those elements together into "combinations".

Model Mates are next. Practice typical mating patterns such as the corridor mates, Lolli, Greco, Damiano, Anastasia and Morphy mates.

Then study some simple endgames... King and Pawn endgames are the best to start with, then King, Rook and Pawn engames.

After that, you will have the tools you need to take a look at typical middle-game strategies and opening theory... those subjects should be deferred until you've gotten a decent grounding in tactics, mates and endgames.

Reaching 800 is nearly impossible.

Study tactics, tactics and tactics,add basic endgame study like opposition(king pawn endgames).

is it difficult to reach 800 rating(fide).You initialy start with 1200!!!!

Since you're rated nearly 1800 in online, you're probably there already.

So... you are trying to become an 800, but on chess.com you have an 1800 rating? That means, if I do the math... I should be rated around 3,900! So, are you asking for someone besides yourself?

Yeah I'm just asking generally.  Kinda like if i was asking on a thread for tips on hooking up with hot strippers . . . I wouldn't be asking for myself, since I already got that pretty down pat.

get the book "How to Beat your dad in chess" along with Chess Openings for kids and Lasker common sense in chess and wake everyday saying I want to reach 1200 I want to reach 1200 and never look back you'll get 1000 or 1100 and doubt why you were ever struggling below 1000.

Even a monkey could reach 800 by randomly moving pieces.

Well, yeah, but like I said in the OP, there are reams of players on here rated between 300-700.  I mean, what does a 800 rated player have what they don't have?

I would assume that either he knows nothing about the rating system or he meant to type 1800.

I want to meet this 300 rated player, and shake his hand.

Karl, we have a player on our Jerky Boys team rated about 190 or something!

My first rating with the USCF was 367. Back when I was a 3rd grader. Of course, now I'm 1650 (not much better) but lots of scholastic players just get rated with no clue how to move pieces. 

If you can sign your own name and know how to read, 800 is just around the corner. Unless you're still in daycare.  Surely.

So read a decent chess book, and leave this thread alone.  Q.E.D.

What happened to that "0rating" guy that posted in this thread earlier?  Did he get banned?
