Give me some pros and cons for Lichess and chess.com

Give me some pros and cons for both Lichess and chess.com also say which you prefer more.
Lichess pros: horsey, all features are free, infinite analysis and puzzles, simultaneous exhibitions, simpler interface, focuses on chess over profit.

Lichess cons: Less customisation for example no profile pictures, smaller player base, no features like vote chess or daily chess or daily chess tournaments between teams or between members of a team.

Chess.com pros: More features, larger player base, allows you to advertise your team

Chess.com cons: most features locked behind a paywall, focused on profit not chess

Personally I prefer Lichess but I want to know what you think

I do like Lichess's Stockfish enabled analysis when looking at openings and games...

I'm used to Chess.com though and it's where I play. The interface is more appealing, but Lichess is fine. If Lichess had been around a few years ago, I may have preferred that...

Ok, simply put:

Lichess

+ Everything is free

+ Huge API (for devs like me)

+ Open source

- No profile pictures

- Less communication-based, more chess-focused

Chess.com

+ Huge company behind it

+ Lessons

+ Bots

+ Community features (forums, clubs)

- Loads of it is behind a paywall

- Not very good API (only basic data available)

So, that's my opinion. 😊

I can have a bigger pp on Lichess.

Lichess you don't even need an account so you can practice anonymously and make the stupidest moves just to work out your kinks and it won't affect your stats. Other than that, Chess.com is your best bet!

Ok, on a serious note: ChessUp support for online play. But supposedly it's coming to Chess.com, too. Can't wait to get one!

ChessUp: Chess Smart Board for All Ages – Bryght Labs (playchessup.com)

Make the board and pieces wooden, and I will take a look at it. Right now, it is just some stupid gray and black stuff because the makers are too lazy to make a wooden version.

How are you gonna make a wooden version light up like that?

You just put a lampshade on each piece and when a piece is moved it lights up.

Personally I like chess.com a lot better. Chess.com has a lot of interesting features that can lead to interacting with new people and making friends, which they don't have on Lichess. Also because chess.com's player base is larger, if you want to play chess with your friends online its much more likely you will be able to find them on chess.com. The only time I'd recommend Lichess is if you have a sudden urge to play chess but don't want to go through the hassle of creating an account, verifying your email, etc. Also for a membership its not that expensive, its basically as much or cheaper then netflix.

Yes, playing Marco Polo is a lot easier on this site.

I wonder if any of the moderators can tell us just what percentage of Chess.com users actually support the site financially. I heard chess has become so popular in recent years that Chess.com servers have trouble keeping up with demand sometimes. It's too bad so many people out there won't pay for chess.

lichess has studies, thats one of the most important things chess.com is missing in my opinion

What sort of studies do you mean?

SidPlaysChess23
Also chess.com subscriptions are cheaper than a lot of chess boards

Bottom line is that Chess.com is making chess more popular as a whole. Lichess just doesn't have the domain name that people are more tempted to click on and the mainstream presence. The fact that it costs money isn't a bad thing, because you're supporting their mission to promote chess throughout the world.

I think you are mistaken "sidneypoo" i dont have netflix either, but literally every person

on my friends list, & at my chess club thinks 50 dollars+ is too much/ the site tries to break

it down so it doesnt look like as much, but with everyones bills going up this year/ due too inflation, its one increase 2 many for lower income players (esp. when u consider it used to be $30 for the base membership,a more than 50% increase is too much)

later dudes
