Interesting take, I wasn't able to witness the age of Ivanchuk but this does make a lot of sense! I feel like Wesley's more consistent especially recently but I could be wrong
Give your opinions : Wesley So is the new age Ivanchuk

Exactly. I can wholeheartedly agree that their playing styles are poles apart but the similarity in their peak levels and subsequent falls is mind-boggling

I dont follow chess for that long so I cant give solid comment. In my opinion they differ
I respect your opinion

Sadly, as I just started playing chess, I cannot offer up anything lol. However, this seems interesting.

These were 15 minute games though, right? Anyone can beat anyone in a G/15. I don't think that's a good comparison to Ivanchuk playing in top tournaments where a ridiculously high number of games are draws, and randomly coming up with crushing wins vs world champion level players.
I mean, look at some of the streaks... top players (the very top) can more or less go a whole year without losing a single classical game... so losing in that format is a big deal. Losing in a rapid game is an every day thing.
I think all people have something called biorhythms. Ever have a day when you just can't get anything right? Some people have more variability in their performance, while others seem steady. Personally, I have wide swings in my performance level, so I can sympathize with So and Ivanchuk.
Ivanchuk is one of a kind. When Wesley So starts running around kicking and punching stuff after being asked to pee in a cup, then we can start comparing...

LOL didn't know about this. Interesting read hehe

Agreed Ivanchuk is one of a kind and Wesley has a long way to go. What I'm saying is Wesley is showing the signs of being the new-age Ivanchuk in the future
In the year 2021 Wesley So played quite a few spectacular games beating Magnus Carlsen quite a few in the MC chess invitational online tourney. However, in other games; his performance fell quite drastically, which reminded me of 90's Ivanchuk who could arguably Tame even Kasparov at his greatest and yet lose to 2600 players due to sudden blunders. Don't get me wrong here, Wesley and Vasyl couldn't have more contrasting playing styles but the performance drop and absolute peak Alpha zero performance of Wesley So in 2021 in a few patches were very Ivanchuk-esque. Happy to hear all your thoughts
P.S: Due respect to all the players mentioned in the post. I refrained from using 'sir' as it felt repititive. Hence, this side-note.
