Giving time odds

I’m learning a new opening and my son is my sparring partner. I’m easily 800-1200 ELO higher than he is, so I want to even things a bit by giving time odds on our clock. We have a Leaptimer PQ9907S. I can’t find it in the instructions, other than running my side down is there a way to do it? Are there clocks that do what we want?

I don't have that clock but have a branded one based on a Leap timer.

When you choose a mode, you should be able to edit the time to modify each side's timer

Looks like long press of the center button will put you in edit mode.

We figured out how to do it. It sets both sides based on the left time, but will allow differential based on the right side settings. Okay, fine.

We played 10m:5m time control.

He played me down to 24s on my clock where I found mate with 2 Queens. It was a really fun game! We were both weirded out by the structure of the middle game. It was really fun!

I am nowhere ready to play it for real, but I might give it a go tonight in club play…for learning purposes, of course. 😂

You should be able to set it on either side, by setting the lower time first and editing the other side to be higher. Though if you want to play multiple games, you'll need to switch where the clock is each time or reset.

You'd think so, but after fighting with it...

I looked at my games here and found that I only played the Defense once and won that wild game by # where we both missed several opportunities.

I'm happy that I'm growing my opening repertoire. I spent all day yesterday watching YT videos on it; felt a little burned out but I suppose that's normal.
