GM getting banned

Just curious as to how/why this GM got banned? Seems crazy that someone of that high a level would use an engine...

EDIT: Apologies in advance if this isn't allowed on the forums - please delete if breaks any guidelines...

Another one involved in the Pro Chess League.
It's unbelievably stupid and unethical to do that.

FIDE should revoke his GM title

In before the lock: All chess.com is willing to share is exactly what is on his profile. And in addition to cheating, a fair play violation could also be for having multiple accounts.

What a shame - it makes it hard to enjoy because now there's always the question (in the case of a great move) did he/she find the move legitimately?

Just another reason online chess is suspect at best, and online ratings dont mean squat.

Especially daily chess ratings.

LOL... these games were in rapid, 15+2.

That's why online the only chess that matters is bullet chess (maybe blitz chess as well), as you simply don't have time to cheat (as opposed to real life where bullet chess is miles away from regular chess when wanting to compare actual quality of players).

Irrelevant, its all online ,thus doesnt mean squat as Diakonia said.

So I just got destroyed by a 1300 in a rapid 15+1 game using an engine... in an unrated game... why??..

Annonymity, no accountability, and ego.

thegreat_patzer

so if an engine takes you down on unrated.

you say "thats good humble Pie" and figure out, if there's anything truly bad about the way you played.

obviously an engine can win against anyone.  but every once in a while, perhaps its good to see you weaknesses laid bare but the silicon beast.?

Cherub_Enjel

Since this thread is getting shut down anyways, the game:

[public accusation are not allowed; report if you TOS violations -- MOD]

After move 6, all the engine's top picks until the [game identifying information removed -- MOD] end.

I shouldn't have made the simple blunder I did, but this was an unrated game where I was reading the forums at the same time as I was playing...

thegreat_patzer

for the benefit of the OP.

it wasnt' likely to survive.   if you say something bad about people ina new thread they tend to shut it down.

people caught cheating used to be an exception to that policy.  but my guess is since these are professionals- chess.com admin will not want their reputation further trashed in a thread....

fyi

Google "chess bot" or PM Cherub for more information on them.

There are no chess bots in known existence that can play so "humanly" as mine can in bullet

Except the chess bot used by 2Q1C to perfectly simulate a 900 player with 0 error wink.png

thegreat_patzer

i was wondering if that was an accusation?  what a hot little thread.

So inaccurate...so wrong...so ignorant.  You can get a chrome extension (chess engine) that can be used at any time control.

Cherub_Enjel

You can never tell if anything from him is a joke.

For the record, the 3 titled players I've beaten in the last week in blitz/bullet don't share his opinion.
