It was in my Senior year that I had, by chance, to hear a great speech from GM Yasser Seirawan at the High School State tournament at Lakeside High School in 1988, to me a famous speech, where he said: "AND MAY THE WINNER'S WIN!" Well we (the players) were playing the last round (5th of this tournament) and I was paired up at 1300 with a 1550+ rated player on board 3 of over 200 players in the section, and, as I sarcastically told GM Yas later on at the Washington Open in 1992, where he was selling books and boards; I know you, you're the guy who gave me bad luck at the Lakeside High School State tournament in 1988, where you gave that funny speech, and you said: "MAY THE WINNER'S WIN!" I was playing a 1500+ rated player at my lowly 1300 rating, and I had a drawn position against the guy and I ended up losing to him by a 1 move blunder. Sarcastically, I told him, "All I could think about was that speech you gave during the game and I lost track of what was going on in my game." All he did was laugh at me for telling him that, but I became good friends with GM Yasser Seirawan after that. I also bought a board from him and had him sign Aaron Nimzowitsch's book: My System and a board. What a GREAT MAN GM Yasser Seirawan is! Great personality! At the time, I also met IM Jeremy Silman at the Washington Open in 1992 and again in 1993, along with IM John Donaldson, his good friend back then at the very least. I found out how great and unique the personalities of these high level people can really be. I think that is a great thing in Chess to meet these wonderful high-rated players and they each have their own unique personalities and, for the most part, are good people. IM Jeremy Silman is probably the funniest person in Chess you would ever meet! Great guy all-around!
I have also frequented from 1988-1993 The Last Exit, an almost always extremely busy coffee-house with over 50 tables to play a game on in the U-district of Seattle, not far from the University of Washington campus and played Chess there for endless blitz games and some Siamese matches as well. One of the best coffee houses and most famous from GM Yasser Seirawan frequenting the place. I did not see Yasser there much, but NM Viktor Pupols, NM David Weinstock, and, then IM Georgi Orlov and other IMs frequented the place as it was a good place to practice blitz (5/0) games. In addition to Chess being played at The Last Exit, the Japanese game 'Go' was commonly played by the Chess players as a way to improve their Chess game. The owner of the Last Exit was an old man that was crazily running around the place in the back. A stressed, aged man, but also a stern old man and an extremely hard worker. After his passing, The Last Exit was shut down, unfortunately, as he did not pass on the business to anyone.
Where is GM Yasser Seirawan playing? What site please?
OK. I must have missed him doing a Live Broadcast playing. Someone here said he was doing a Live Broadcast for playing people, but I missed the site name they gave a link.
