Hmmm.
This is probably one of the stupidest theories there is, just because Hans Niemann is probably the least likely of all of Carlsen's opponents to benefit from leaking opening prep.
Right now it is probably more likely that Niemann didn't cheat and Carlsen is just being a brat, but has gone too far to take it back.
Just because he cheated in some online games as teenager, doesnt mean that he cheated when playing OTB. i have seen absolutely no proofs that he should actually have cheated in that game.
All i see is alot of hikary and magnus wannabee´s claiming that because he cheated online, he must also have cheated when he played magnus, like that should count as any proof. Dont hope any of those kids ever end up as a judge

It's all been said in other threads.
There is no compelling evidence that Hans cheated against Magnus, nor that anyone leaked prep. Many of us have won games through sheer dumb luck in prep. I beat our city champion in 17 moves because he walked into a trap I had studied two days earlier.
Magnus behaved like a spoiled child in his accusations.
If someone from Carlsens team gave Hans opening prep that Magnus was working on I don't think that's cheating as far as official rules of chess tournaments go. It's definitely betrayal to Magnus but if Hans wasn't receiving any help WHILE PLAYING I don't see how it's cheating.

but it gives a bigger chance that Hans could have cheated. maybe there is no way to prove about him cheating, but the history of his chess career colors him as non trustworthy player with posibilities to cheat especially in the tournaments with big money included. if a person can cheat for fun in free casual games, oh dear that person could cheat for 2 million prize. In the end, they just needed better anticheat system for OTB and online games and from the articles ive read about this whole topic they actually really improved the system after this scandal, and thats a HUGELY GREAT thing! By the way players who cheats even in casual games should be permanently banned from all at least major tournaments. But maybe the problem is that too many players did cheat in their past and this couldnt be applied to everyone playing now. They should release the announcement that from the announcement day in the future whoever cheats gets perma ban.

My theory is someone from Magnus team gave Hans the opening preparation.
You have in your hands the opening preparation, what will you do.
Hans definitely read it and prepare against it.
