Has anyone actually captured the king?

In learning chess there is a lot of techniques on how to attack and trap the king, but in reality I find it never actually leads to a true kind capture; The game always ends before that happens. So I was just wondering if this is something other people of chess have experienced...

I have spent years working on this...

In blitz chess, the rule used to be that an illegal move loses the game. So if you got checked, you made a random move, the opponent claimed the win by capturing the king.

As far as I know, this rule was replaced by a much lamer one.

Wow, you're brutal.. A victory is not enough for you, king must be dealt with the old fashioned way. I've always just kind of let that slide, but I feel you.

I guess I just imagine how amazing that would be.... just one day finally capturing that king. I have learnt to be ok with "wins" though.

I have good (or bad) news for you, because I couldn't understand the post.

But you can capture the King! Atleast in a chess variant...

You can create your own chess variant with your own rules and position here:

That's where I got the photo from.

There is no "Capture the King" variant as far as I know, but you can make your own with custom position or custom rules. Or just a "Capture the King" variant!

Edit: I just saw your edited post, happy to help (if I did), no problem!

Thank you! After all the years I finally got it

I just got it too!

I forgot to tell that there is other variants like Fog of War where you can win by capturing the King, you can try them if you want.
