Has GM Ben Finegold left CCSC Saint Louis?

Hi,

I am sure almost everyone here will be aware of the CCSCSL as they host the Sinquefield Cup & Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz tournaments and several more tournaments which are streamed here Live.

Besides this they also regularly upload several instructional chess lectures on youtube. One of the lecturers is Ben Finegold, who splits opinions.

I saw a video he posted on his own personal youtube page in which he was promoting CCSC Atlanta and urging viewers to join Atlanta CCSC. So I was wondering if he has left CCSC Saint Louis.

If you look at the site you will see that Ben just got married and that he will be opening the Atlanta club with his new wife Karen.

Hey thank you. I go get that he will be part of the Atlanta Club. However does that mean he will no longer be associated with St. Louis Club and won't be making any new videos from there.

If you read the website, I think an ongoing relationship can be inferred:

The “People’s Grandmaster” is one of the most popular chess lecturers, with many of his YouTube lectures receiving over 100,000 views. He is frequently the Resident GM and commentator at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.

Plus, the pace of video posting to his YouTube channel continues unabated.

His most recent video analyzes a Kasparov Nunn Benoni from 1982 and offers several explanations about his plans for the Atlanta opening, his travels and videos. https://youtu.be/QDvrafeDDmg

how can I build a chess club in fargo, nd that will rival st lousi?

JayeshSinhaChess

So if he does move does it mean no more new Ben Finegold lectures on youtube? Atleast none from St. Louis club. Is it really the end of the greatest comedy duo in chess - Ben Finegold and Arjun?

You will have to teach bovine how to play chess.

dairy is wisconsin, nd cattle country is central to western nd!

The amount of cow-tipping I did in my youth after finishing the national wrestling tournaments would indicate otherwise, unless you can make wheat sentient.

there are areas of the country where bovines outnumber humans, maybe even some desolate places in western nd (although there's an influx of people with oil activity now), but not in the eastern 3rd of the state, it's all farm country, and wheat has become a minority crop due to corn subsidies.  There are some dairies around here not a lot, more as you get deeper into mn, where the terrain is much like wisconsin and there are more dairies.

Finegold lost his job as permanent GM in Residence years ago.

He does still guest from time to time.

The moral of the story is that while chess politics can sometimes be ugly, clearly there were no lingering hard feelings on either side, which is good.

I like Finegold's vids, especially his "how to beat your nemesis" videos. There are a lot of instructions on how to play various defensive openings, but not a lot on how to attack them as white.

So that's what this is about? Who is Arjun? One of the clueless kids in the audience?

Don't worry. There are more than enough to go around.

No, the Sinquefield family did not give one cent to help us open CCSCATL.  Additionally, Ben did not lose his job as permanent, resident GM in St. Louis.  He quit that job but continued to work for them as part of their rotation of resident GMs.  Ben will have more YouTube lectures soon on our CCSCATL YouTube channel, as soon as I figure out how to edit them.  Thanks for your support! (And Arjun is super cute and not clueless at all!)

Hey @Kbthegreat thank you for replying. I am a big fan of Ben Finegold's lectures and look forward to more of them on youtube. I watch it just for the comedy and pick up some chess along the way tongue.png.

Also I would really like Ben to coach me personally over skype. Atleast one 1 hr session with him would be great. I keep asking him in chats during chess streaming on chess.com, but he keeps joking about it. I will pay ofcourse.

Also whenever the youtube channel is up are sure to have a subscriber in me. (Will Arjun be there tongue.png)

Well, he streams nearly every day on Twitch. He had stopped teaching but the whole coronavirus shutdown may change things.
