have you ever had a chess dream?

last night i dreamed about various positions and what i would do next.  but i couldnt move the pieces and then another position would appear.

Well the first step is, admitting you have a problem...

Happens to me all the time, I am guessing about once a week I will dream of chess.

when i first joined this site i was really into chess. i was playing all day and i definitely thought about chess a lot. i'd have dreams where i was playing. i'd dream of games that i'm currently playing and where i wanted to move next (usually not proper details though). i'm sad to say that i'd even be hanging out with friends and thinking about my chess games online.

i've calm down a bit now though ;)

Just once, years ago.  I was riddled with flu at the time.  Y'know when you dream with the flu your sort of in and out of the same repetitive crappy dream?  I was playing black and the moves being made just made no sense, it was more of a Chess nightmare.  I was reading Anne Rice books at the time too and believe I was playing Chess with Lestat the Vampire but he never actually made an appearance.  All I could see was this screwed up position that kept on repeating over and over. 

I don't think I've ever dreamt of Chess since.

I once made a blunder in a correspondance game and didn't realize it until that night, when I dreamt about the exact position and the exact move my opponent would make to snatch up an unprotected piece.  Then I woke up in a panic.  Totally lame.

I only wish I'd have this kind of board vision when I was lucid.

If I go to sleep after long hours of calculation I definitely see some chess positions.

I once had a dream that I could play well at chess, unfortunately it remains a dream.

Yesterday I was dreaming about maneuvering with a bishop and not being able to get it to a certain square...

I've had couple of times chess related hangover nightmares with some crazy tactics storming in my head.

i've also had dreams about:
halo (i was riding in a sidecar of a warthog while it was doing flips in the air)
black & white (the pc game where you play god... i beat up one of the villagers)
grand theft auto vice city (stole a car)

Sometimes that happens to me, especially after playing a lot, I'll see a completely random position in my head and wont be able to think straight until i get the pieces into the right position.

yes once,i had a dream where i was watching a game from the kings point of view and the opponent was setting up a scholars mate which the my player completely ignored ..........

I had one dream where I was playing in a tournament against somebody much stronger than me and everybody was cheering me on. I was capturing pieces and every time I won a piece the crowd would go wild. So I leave the board for a minute to talk to somebody and when I'm going back, my opponent tells me he's checkmated me by moving his queen across a long diagonal that I hadn't seen and that it was easy. It was the worst! I was feeling so good about myself until then.

I used to have them more frequently; it was always a four-knight endgame, where I just couldn't find the right square.  Man, they were annoying!  :)

I think it's a common occurrence for anyone who plays / does puzzles frequently.  I know just before waking up I'll commonly have dreams where I'm trying to figure out how to manuver something somewhere.  If I've been playing a lot of blitz I'll dream about tactics.

I once had a dream where it was a chess position and moves, but all the pieces were random (and even overlaping) shapes.  The images themselves made no sense (they were even overlaping remember) but it was chess because I was thinking, if this moves here, it effects this piece, if he responds there it effects that area (square).  Very interesting.

Also had the "knightmare" stuff when sick :)  I had a fever and was very uncomfortable and I kept trying to manuver my bishops places but there was always something in the way.  When I woke up my legs were caught in the blankets and I couldn't get them out lol.
