Have you had chess dreams (or nightmares)?

Years ago, when I was in college, I played chess obsessively. During the height of my obsession, I occasionally had vivid dreams involving chess. The most notable of these bizarre dreams was one in which my friends were chess pieces. They didn't take the form of chess pieces, but I just knew them as such, and thought things like, "There's Dave. He Black's knight," or, "Maybe I should castle by getting Amy to switch seats with Jason." It was a bit unsettling as I'm not one to manipulate my friends and am wary of those who do.

The whole thing reminded me of the first time I dreamt in Spanish. It felt like the language was really sinking in. I sort of miss being so immersed in chess, but maybe it was too much.

Do any of you have chess dreams or nightmares?

Once on a blue moon I dream about playing it. I am looking down on a giant 2d board actually playing a game. In the morning I can actually recall vividly some aspects of the game. I recall blockading a passed pawn and moving my rooks up to attack it in one dream.

No, but I have had nightmares about goldfish.

I've had dreams where I mixed chess and a regular dream. Instead of walking over to somebody, I moved diagnoly or in L-shaped jumps.

That's very much along the lines (no pun intended) of the dreams I had. Weird, right?

That's why I almost always wait for the morning to choose a move on correspondence games.

That's hilarious. Like, Batman Heath Ledger or Brokeback Mountain Heath Ledger?

Yeah, I have a nightmare. It's called playing against the Smith-Morra gambit as Black .

I have chess dreams all the time. I can never see myself or the opponent just the board. Kind of weird actually to just dream about a chess board. I seem to have a clairvoyance in my dreams and I can see all the outcomes of the particular move i'm focusing on but the rest of the board is hazy. They are always short dreams with a single position and they seem to occur in the morning right before I wake up. Dreams are strange.

Now that I think about it. My chess dreams are the only ones I seem to recall. I can't remember having any other dreams in a long time. Maybe a year or two.
