I found the mate in 3 in about 4 or 5 seconds, but it took me about two minutes to find the mate in 2.

yes, its important to find the fastest mate in a tactics problem. What would you prefer, mate in two or mate in three? Mate in two is obviously better, so the tactics problem only takes the best line as the solution
