Some people like playing their computers, and for very valid reasons: such as wanting to practice specific lines or ideas, which can be difficult to arrange with another person.
So again, it depends on the reason you want to use the engine.
I think most people are looking for a tool to help the analyze positions more than to be a sparring partner. But that doesn't mean the sparring partner use is invalid.
This is the most desirable thing. Is not it?
