3 moves? NO engine in existance searches only 6 ply, if you don't count my clunky batch file chess "engine" that I made a few years back...
may i ask, why do you need the info?

I've been told you can set a "rating loft" on some engines. I was thinking that maybe one could also set a search dept ceiling. Isn't that possible?
It's simply a matter of curiosity, springing from the idea that humans look something like 3 moves ahead (yes, I know, it can be more or less, depending on player and position). I want to buy an engine, and would find it interesting to toy with one allowing the search dept to be set (to something like a "human level").
Depth of 3 moves to a chess engine is just like playing strength of about 1200-1400 Elo (my level :-) ...very weak lol).
You are understating the level significantly. A decent engine running at 6 ply is probably at least 1800 FIDE. The number of positions it looks at is already quite large. If you are holding your own against such a computer, you are doing well.
Okay, Houdini and Rybka are rated over 3000. This rated is with a search dept of many moves.
Does anyone know which engine is rated the highest at a search dept of 3 moves (6 half moves), and what the rating is?
Thanks!
