History of Chess

It is thought that chess originated in China or India more than 1400 years ago. It spread to North Africa and was introduced to Europe after the muslim conquest of Spain. Early pieces were based on an Asian army, with elephants , chariots , and footsoldiers.

Here in India the game called THE CHESS was discovered and it was called CHATURANG because chatu means four and rang means colour and chess has four main pieces bishop means the camel, knight means the horse ,rook means the elephant and queen is rani or wazir and king is badshah.

not the exact chess played at India before 1500 years. some similar like game was played & it has changed, evaluated place to place & time to time. it some how different game was introduced by our forefathers.

For anyone who's interested there's a great book called The Immortal Game by David Shenk which tracks the history of chess. I really found it a fascinating read and would highly recommend it Laughing
