House of Staunton vs Jaques London

Jaques has the tradition, history and brand recognition, but they haven't made any decent sets since before WW2. They just resell Indian-made sets nowadays, just like HoS. AFAIC, HoS offers superior sets these days and in fact, some of the recent JoL special edition sets were "designed" by Frank Camarata from HoS and manufactured by one of his Indian manufacturers (AIW, I think).

I am sure some others will chime in but Frank's opinion is worth a lot. He has a good rep here for chess equipment (along with several others).

I like House of Staunton sets.
I have three House of Staunton sets.
All of my House of Staunton sets have broken or cracked or repaired pieces. In one case, setting a pawn down firmly--it wasn't even slammed--caused instant decapitation. The pawn's head blew off. I glued it back together and cannot easily find which piece in that set has been repaired.

Another place that has sets as nice as The House of Staunton is The Official Staunton Company, www.officialstaunton.com
As Frank said above, all these companies are buying sets from India and reselling them. Jaques is still priced quite high.
Carl, that has Official Staunton, uses a lot of the same manufacturers as House of Staunton.

The two plastic sets were ordered direct from House of Staunton.
Which company makes the nicest sets?
