It's easy to understate how much time constraints change the dynamic of the game. The ratings between the two don't line up, they don't have the same gradient between ratings, and so on. Comparing one's abilities in blitz and standard chess is more like comparing one's abilities in Chess and Go.
So my Blitz rating on here, based solely on games at G/10, is now just 1300-something. But since returning to USCF OTB play last October, with my rating at it's floor of 1700, my record and performance ratings against A-players (1800-1999) is as follows:
From this I take lots of hope for possible future significant improvement of my rating, considering the highest I've ever been at USCF/OTB is the low 1900s, and that was without working at it like I am now.
So how can I be so bad at 10-minute chess on here? Maybe age? (I turn 53 next month) I do like the quicker time controls in that they let me get more games in with my opening lines. I've noticed that for my wins I'm only getting 10 or 12 points, but when I lose my rating goes down 35 points, what's up with that.
Please, anybody, I need some cheese with my whine
Seriously, what can I do to improve at faster time controls (I do tactics but get frustrated when I miss solutions, so am constantly resetting it to 1200)
