Hello, my name is Jan and I started playing chess in February this year. My current rating is 1312 rapid ELO. My goal is to hit 1400 till the end of summer. Is there someone who can help me get there? I will appreciate all help. Thanks, happy.png

Try and remember the basic hierarchy of things to consider for your moves!
- opponent’s threats. Acknowledge these first!
- checks
- captures
- attacks
- positional improvement

Never. Ever. Ever. End your calculation on your own move. Even if you’re doing five or ten move sequences - end it on your opp’s move. Then you won’t be surprised so much!

Improving at chess is usually not easy. If you can afford few lessons, I would advise getting a coach. I can teach you how to think during the chess game. After that, your progress is inevitable.

If you can't afford any lessons, here is the excerpt from very good article on how to improve:

Play a lot, analyze your games, and primarily study tactics. Your knowledge of openings, endgame, middlegame, etc. will come from analyzing your games and going over grandmaster games. Only study one of those specific topics if it is clear you are specifically losing because of that topic.

Here is the great YT series from my channel to learn from as well: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUrgfsyInqNa1S4i8DsGJwzx1Uhn2AqlT

Good luck either way! happy.png

I am not an expert but I think that you should never resign and you should solve a lot of tactics (puzzles)

@myratingis1523falseban ah this new account of yours not banned yet? We’re the same rating over the board, my friend. Come play me there where I actually can be bothered to think and I’ll crush your bullet playing *ss
schchchch
You can’t when you play honest. Because 90 percent is cheating.

@myratingis1523falseban half of your country is busy claiming that your last election was somehow rigged, so I won’t be taking any lectures on national IQ 😂😂

Now you might note from my recent games that I simply don’t really play blitz or bullet. Just like you don’t seem to play rapid. Actually, since getting your latest account you don’t seem to play much chess at all. I think, if I had lost an account where I had worked for 2200, I would be a little more upset about it than you are. I wonder why that is.

I am not much higher rated than you, but I have this very interesting idea going for me : consider every game you lose as a riddle, you made some mysterious mistake that compromised your position, and your goal is to find it and solve the riddle.

Now, many losses of yours may just be basic mistakes like blundering pieces, but sometimes it's deeper than that, maybe you allowed your opponent some 2-3 move tactic that wins them a piece, maybe you gave up a key square for their knight, maybe you made a bad pawn move, etc. At any rate, it's usually something you didn't see or weren't even aware of during the game.

Thanks for the help

Hey buddy, you already got a W over me, so I really shoudln't be the one talking, but here's my two cents:
- stick to one opening as white
- use the "Training" feature here to train Openings as Black (learn something against everything, whether it's the French, QGD, Sicilian, etc. - I was losing a lot of games out of the opening because I just didn't know what I was doing. I still do sometimes, but I'm better at it)
- don't just memorize openings, try to understand the common ideas behind them (I mainly play the Ruy and I used to play a3 a lot, creating a safe square for my light square bishop, but usually this is an inaccuracy as a4 is a LOT better, but you have to understand why
- I was losing a LOT to threats that just weren't there. It's often called a phantom threat. You have to ask yourself, is this really a threat? In a lot of cases, it actually isn't, but you go on the defensive and the opponent gains a lot of initiative.
- Do lots of puzzles but you are already better at puzzles than me so it doesn't apply
- BEST ADVICE: STUDY MORE THAN YOU PLAY... I used to play a lot of daily games and often got totally tilted, losing more than a 100 ELO per session, lol. Play 2-3 games a day and use the rest of your time to study.
YOU ARE ALREADY 1400 BRO, U JUST NEED THE CONSISTENCY - here's the thing, you are super solid on the openings, I think you are already at 1400 level, you just have to win enough games in a row to reach this ELO. Hell, I think you are just as close to 1500.
I went to a tournament recently and I can hold up against 1700s. I knew I would reach 1500 I just need to play carefully. Also focus on your 10+0 only for a while
Hope this somewhat helps, yound padavan
