How Common Are 90% Accuracy Games?

I'm around 1100-1200 ELO and I've noticed an upsetting trend in my last few games. It seems like the majority of the people I play are playing games with 90% accuracy or better. In fact, out of my last 12 games, 7 of them played at 89% or higher. I would have expected that players at my ELO would blunder more and play with lower accuracy. I myself get the occasional 90% game, but it's often when the other player is playing really poorly, making it obvious which moves are best. In the games where I've been up against a 90% player, there are have been some where I played with a low 40% accuracy, but others I was playing with 80 or 90%.

So, with all of that said, my question is: how common are 90% accuracy games? I don't want to be that poor sport that just assumes everyone is cheating, but it feels statistically unlikely that I would come up against so many low ELO players playing this well. What have your experiences been?

I would say that my average accuracy is over 90%, sometimes despite a number of inaccuracies, missed wins etc., in longer games.

I can most assure you that I don't cheat in any way. The accuracy score causes so many issues here that it should be scrapped or a more meaningful way of calculating it should be found.

I should have been more clear when I mentioned the cheating aspect. I don't actually think these people are cheating. In fact, when I look at their profiles I can see that they have a ton of variance in their accuracy as well. It's just very frustrating to feel like you play a good game and the engine tells you you played with a 70% and your opponent played with 95%. It makes me feel like maybe I'm playing too passively and making it too easy for the opponent to make great moves.

It’s quite common to get 90% accuracy, many of my games I’ve achieved this.

at 1100-1200? Not very common, but I get those all the time (around 1/3)

Probably is pretty unlikely at your level to get 7/12 of your opponents having 89%< accuracy. Hey look, I defined probability in terms of probability xD

Just bad luck.

This is an old post but I this more common than people think and a very good question. It's more than just 'bad luck'. If you play someone at 1000 ELO and they get 90% over 50 moves and you are above 70% then something is up. The probability of that happening organically is very, very low.

if your opponent drops a piece and then you exchange all the pieces and then play a 40 move endgame then 90 accuracy is completely reasonable

insane

If you get 90 accuracy in a long game, two options: Either it was a draw, or your opponent blundered early on and you went on to win easily
