How did I suddenly get so bad?

Sort:
Blood-And-Iron

I was never good, but for a while I was playing around the 1300 range. Now I'm getting dominated by opponents rated 900. I feel like I'm getting worse by the day.

Don't worry, I am raising awareness.

That's great! All problems can be solved if enough people are aware of them.

Looking at your rating graph it looks like you weren't playing chess for about 6 months.

So maybe you just need some time to get used to it again.

I have a tip for you that will improve your game by 50 rating points. Attack the F7 pawn and never move F2. In 40 years I have never seen someone mated in 2 moves, but you managed to get there by pushing your F pawn. The next game you played white, on move 4, you pushed that F2 again. Instead you should have checked with your Queen and won a rook..

I used to be 1422 rated at Rapid. Then, my Elo fall to 1277. Then, it increased until it reached 1419 (only 3 points from my peak). Finally, it fall to 1313.

Preggo_Basashi

Whether intentional or not, some people here are misinterpreting their peak as if it's their average.

By the way, we can see your stats, your rating graphs, etc.

Los ajedrecistas pasamos por ciclos de fuerza y debilidad. Nuestro Elo sube y baja por circunstancias que no podemos controlar.

Sure, but if you've only once in your life been 1422, then you're not 1422, that's just your peak.

IGNORE THIS ZIONIST NAZI.

Wow in 2018 that kind of antisemitism!?  I hate to tell you lots of Jews play chess.  You are going to have a tough time in chess with that attitude.

Blood-And-Iron

And now I'm consistently losing to players rated 700.

Why did you resign in this game: https://www.chess.com/live/game/2987713254?username=blood-and-iron

You were completely winning! shock.png

If you resign in won positions, you will always lose.

An advise: when you play long time controls, take more time to think.

Seriously, you are playing as if it were Blitz.

You missed key tactics in this game. Study up on those.

The whole point of playing 30 min. games is to be able to analyze during your game, so that you get better with each game.

I went from 800 to 1313 only be learning how to manage time. Before, I played either too fast or too slow.

foxyd

I find my rating suffers if I play after a few beers.

I know I might be a bit late to the conversation, but I've seen the same effect in my play. I used to play in the 900s but I lost some games and went down to the 800s, although I have been as highly ranked as 1200 at one point, but since about a week I seem to have lost every major cognitive skill in me. People [ranks] that I easily used to beat seem like top-notch players now. It is pretty frustrating but I have no clue what is causing it. I might try the week of that somebody said it could help but I don't know if it will help.

I too suck badly! I'm 44 and i play since 7 but i always was bad. I feel that i always make the same moves and it hets borring. Sometimes i hate it. I have no ideea about oppenings....
