How do I get a game longer than 30 minutes/side

Thank you, but I know how to set the time. I just can't find anyone who wants to play a game over 30 minutes. Is it just unrealistic to want to expect to find an opponent who is willing to play a game set at 60 minutes per side?

I enjoy longer time controls too, but have sadly reached a point where I settled at 15/10. Even then, a majority of opponents play like it is a bullet or blitz game! Of course, it’s their time to spend how they wish, I find it strange that they don’t seem to want to spend it at all. Maybe they like having that edge in time to put their opponent in a bit of pressure. Your best bet may be putting up a game and waiting, and when you find a friendly person to take you up, add them as a friend and play with a group of others who enjoy playing at that time control.

I don't have any help for you. Both extremes seem to have lots of players (very short time controls or several days). Like you, I would have guessed players who like OTB tournaments would want to play online with OTB length controls. I've gone the long route. All of the games I play take several days. Usually the time control is set at having up to 3 days to make a move. There are plenty of tournaments for me to choose from and plenty of one-time game offers with 1-3 day limits per move.

For long time control games, check out the Slow Chess League and Dan Heisman Learning Center.

Also, SCL just started live G/30 tourneys on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Thanks you so much, brother 7. What is SCL & how do I find them?
SCL = Slow Chess League
Three links:
- Slow Chess League website
- Slow Chess League club on chess.com
- Dan Heisman Learning Center club on chess.com
I suggest you join the two clubs (#2 and #3) and register on the SCL website (#1).
Has anyone had any success getting a rated game of one hour for either side?
If so, how?
