How do I get better at blitz?

I just can't get better I hover around the same rating constantly and I don't know why.

its ok, as you increase in where you are strongest, you will naturally get stronger everywhere (even if you do not play much of it!).

For instance, my friend used to play and grind a huge amount of bullet and reached 1800. I however had never played a single bullet game then for nearly 2 years and my bullet elo was 900 because I hadn't played bullet against other people than friends (and sometimes the challenge would be rated accidentally).

I played my friend in 5 games, and won all of them. Reason was that my rapid rating was 2000 - 2100 while theirs was 1800.

And the answer is also very simple. STUDY CHESS!

he probably knows that, but is confused about difference in elo for blitz and rapid

Blitz is kinda easier than rapid. Maybe it's due to time difference or smth. Bullet and rapid would be almost on par with each other, since bullet is more of how good are you on time management and making moves accurately and fast. Whereas rapid is a slow-paced game, and you really have to think into depth of what moves you want to play. I suggest you should play rapid if you are struggling with accuracy and bullet for time management.

But good luck in your push for blitz. I'm rooting for you.

Personally, I would just let blitz and bullet play go away for now.

Focus on improvement, thru rapid play.

Hi

ChessMasteryOfficial

Focus on making fewer blunders rather than trying to play perfect moves. Reducing mistakes is often more critical in blitz than playing brilliant moves.

for me it's the opposite. I find classical chess the easiest and blitz the hardest because of how easily I blunder! It is super rare for me to get outplayed

To reach 2000 blitz you probably have to do it before you reach age 20

I started playing chess at 30 with breaks in between. If we'd remove break then I'd say that I'm in chess for around 4-5 years. And I'm 37 now.

Do you have any advice to get to 2200 rapid? should I be focusing more on openings, middlegame strategy, or endgame technique?

Usually correct answer is "work on everything". But if you want a specific advice then... sorry, I can't do that because I don't know anything about you. I'm not your coach, lol.

P.S.

Just opened up one of your latest games:

You should do something with understanding basic opening principles. This games shows that you don't understand them well.

I do understand them well? How don't I?

Did you even try to look at that game? How can you say that you understand opening principles well after that?

What even are opening principles. I looked at that game and I think it was relatively good.

It was good?? Almost every move in the opening was a mistake.

So, you don't even know what opening principles are all about?

I just started playing c4 on my own a few days ago, without any knowledge of any theory. This looked like some kind of Scandinavian so I played it like a Scandinavian.

Play your fianchetto set-up/Reversed Dragon if you want to keep it in English territory and preserve good winning chances.

If you do deviate from the English, yes, play off opening principles and chess fundamentals.

White is doing well against the Anglo-Scandinavian either way.

What was that? Another example how NOT to play chess?

Offering two options, keep it in English Territory or play off opening principles. That’s not my advice, from an NM.

We aren’t asking for perfection, are you?

There are many master games on this and white scores well.

This isn’t rocket science 101….

Forget about blitz at all at the moment. Try to play longer games. 30 min or at least 15+10. Once you become 2200 at rapid your blitz will jump to 2000+ automatically.

Sorry, Chuck, but you don't even know what are you talking about. Long story short, if you want to remain 1600 rapid/1200 blitz, good luck playing like you playing right now.

Don’t be sorry.

I am focusing on improvement and surrounded by supportive people.

I am preparing for 90/30 and expanding my skill set; playing rapid or blitz is not the way to go about it but I will dabble time to time more so when I am

What does Anglo-Scandinavian mean to you?

bruh guys chill

makesc yiu feel better , then i once forgot london theory past move 4 and have made the majority of my "theory" through the hard way

PromisingPawns

By winning.

Hibyemysigh

My advice is play rapid

Then you play unrated blitz for a bit

Then you play rated blitz
