No, he is talking about a variant in which bishops are called elephants. They are forced to move 2 squares diagonally, they can do no more or no less

But if so, then the topic should be in the "Chess variants" section.

Since it isn't so I assume he is talking about regular chess.

We should all be thankful that some dudes in Spain and Italy decided to change the rules. I complain about classical chess being dull, but Shatranj is classical chess on tranquilizers.
