I play on Yahoo Chess... My rating is 1270... Does this rating compare to 'normal' chess rating?

skeptical_moves

no... yahoo chess ratings are inaccurate. but i would say that yahoo's rating system will get you within the range of about 200 points of your "normal" chess rating... but usually your rating should be higher on yahoo than on any other chess site

Baseballfan

There really is no correlation between ratings. A rating in one place is only a rating in that place.

skeptical_moves

yeah, but yahoo has always and will always be inflated

Baseballfan is right. With your rating at Yahoo! Chess you can compare yourself to other players there, but not to people with different ratings from other sites. Of course, usually the higher you are, the stronger you are. But for example there are people on PlayChess rated 2800 with an OTB-rating of <2000, and there are Grandmasters who are only 2300 on PlayChess.

So except for "You'd be rated between 600 and 2900", there aren't any conclusions you can draw from your Yahoo rating.

Your Chess.com rating is a 1183 +/- 24 then.  Your OTB rating would therefore be 1074 +/- 21. I'm assuming your favorite color is green.

No, it doesn't.

If you want an OTB rating or evaluation, play OTB...

I totally agree!

Almost all internet chess ratings are inflated compared to OTB.

This is a fact of life, do not contest it.
