How is ELO points calculated for win-lose??

I just lost 25 points in 2 games but if I win iget get 5-8 elo points. Im not picking the challengers and who makes up these losses to the ELO?? why do I get minimum 5-10  while they may get 10-15 points.. makes no sense. What is the standard or is there one??

It depends on the rating difference. If you’re like 700 and beat a 1200 you will gain A LOT of elo, but losing to a 200 will make you lose a lot of elo. Losing against that 1200 might lose you 1-2 points and winning against the 200 will win you about the same, if anything. But when you play games that are close in rating (700 vs 710) then you will win and lose 5-10 points.
So chances are, those 2 losses were against players well below your rating which is why you lost so much

I realize the differences play in ELO rating   . just does not seem that 1 game against a 1200 I lose 5 pts. then 3 games later against a 1200 I lose 7 or ten??.. and the fact that Im not choosing who to play is the computers pairing not mine.  points up or down should be limited to maybe play time  3 minutes 5 pts.. 10 minutes.. 6pts 15  7points to even points and play time fairly. the lower ELO can alway cancel the game..

Don't play chess at school. I played against my 1800 Elo friend and I was 2249. M Some kid shut down my laptop and 5min later he won by a game abandoned I lost 177 Elo. Not worth it.

Just depends on the elo difference between you and the opponent

Miin1500

I was 770 and i won from a 1242, but my elo was just 15 more. And my opponents elo was down by 400 elo

That was not what i mean!

What i mean was why did my rating go 15 points higher instead of for example 400

New accounts fluctuate more in elo. The early games are more like placement games so a win will add more and losses lose more.

By game 20 or so the placement is more accurate and elo changes per game will be the normal 5-8

Miin1500

The question is: Why do i get 15 and he loses 400?????

HiImNavendu

Yeah same as john4prez7 the higher rated player you beat while having a significantly lower elo/rating is really what add the icing to your cake of becoming a grandmaster and i know one friend of mine he is 1028 smthing rating and i heard he beat gothamchess AKA famous youtuber and chess star levy rozman idk how he did that but its impressive cosidering hes just 14 maybe he will qualify for the chess world championships sometime later seeing his recent SPIKE in elo gainz

godisourtruecreator

in 4P chess my teamate was 1500? and my elo was 1770. He got checkmated but somehow he lost 60 points while i only lost 20. My opponents were around 1500 too

Can someone explain?

Your rating changes more 1. When you have played only a few games and 2. When you return to playing after a long break. I just returned to playing rated games after a break of several months, and for the first few games my rating changed by many more points than normal.
