How is this a pat tie ?


It's white's move, they are not in check, and have no legal moves. That's a draw by stalemate.

How does that make sense ? I just needed 3 turns to move the horse to c2 and it was a checkmate...

It's required for each side to move each turn. White can't move but isn't in check. The rules are that's a draw. At different times and places the rules used to be different, from being a draw, a loss for the stalemated player, or a loss for the stalemating player.
