I can say most people prefer OTB over Online Chess and OTB Chess can never be replaced.

While Bergen Chess Mates will reopen sooner or later, I find it increasingly unlikely that the Marshall Chess Club can survive this pandemic. Keep in mind, it is cramped in there so people cannot socially distance, NYC has been devastated by Covid, and their online club has been flourishing.

Coronavirus will end eventually. Marshall could open again in 2 months if New York can contain the virus which it looks like they're doing just like New Jersey. Without masks? Who knows.
NY seems to be doing better. Perhaps it will eventually reopen with some changes. "Where there's a will, there's always a way."
Just seeing this now. The Marshall Chess Club will 100% be reopening. We don't know when exactly that will happen yet but we can't wait to get back to normal! In the meantime we are running a full slate of tournaments and classes online. Visit our website for details. (And thanks for your thoughts and concern!) —MCC Management

If you are really going to reopen, why does the club calendar list all events being online as late as 2025?
Extremely unlikely that they close permanently. As others have said: people crave OTB chess and they'll want to come back as soon as it's safe to do so.
In my country, all the chess clubs have reopened and they're getting plenty of interest. One FIDE rated tournament that ran here in January actually achieved a record number of entries this year.
There are still a ton of places to play chess over the board. Check out OTBChess community. You can find a partner anywhere in the world.
I find this to be more and more likely every day, sadly. New York City has been hit hard by the pandemic, and many businesses have either moved to being online-only, or have shuttered entirely.
