How long does it normally take to reach 1000, 1500, 1700, 2000 (etc)

As long as it takes, and sometime never. Study, read, practice - do the best that you can. Enjoy the result, whatever it is.

around 1500 games before you reach 1000. Around 5000 games before you reach 1500.

I got to FIDE elo rating score around 2800 when I was around 5 I played for a little bit and stopped and started again around a month ago I practiced a bit and now its around 5500 give or take 5300 so its all about dedication and hard work really. Dont give up remember perfect practice makes practice. happy.png

I reached a rating of 1000 at around 4-6 months.

I played more like a 1200 though.

I reached 1300 in 9 months (A few days ago) and I play like a 1400-1500.

I’m usually far better than my rating because I grind the Chess.com bots. I don’t have a 3.5:1 W/L ratio because I’m a bad cheater, I’m just a bit ahead on my skill level.

Also I don’t do lessons much and never paid a single penny for anything Chess related (except my chessboard.) 💀

Also I grind puzzles like a madman if I can. Peak puzzles was like 2400.

I literally just reached 1500 today. And it took me less than a year....

A couple of days.

Just wondering This is for FIDE, USCF, or any similar ratings

Since most people don´t reach 1000 the correct answer must be: Forever.

ryanovster

on my magnus carlsen account took me days to reach 2000.

Emi47_3

I got to 1500 elo in 35 games so 3 months it would take if your intermediate.

1500 is a matter of blunder checking before moving.
2000 is possible in 1 year, but only with hard and smart work.

It’s just a knowledge based game so you study whatever interests you and you’ll improve.

Time is not a good measure. You would do better identifying the difference between levels.

You could play 1000 games of Blitz and not improve in the slightest; you could spend five hours a week in serious study and gain 300 rating point quite quickly.

I would say that most players can reach 1200 without much effort; 1600 with some effort; 1800 with a great deal of effort; 2000 is beyond the great majority of players (I am talking about ECF not chess.com ratings which are frustratingly meaningless).

tygxc

1500 is a matter of blunder checking.
2000 is achievable in 1 year.
After that +100/year is sustainable with the same effort.

It depends on if its OTB or online. I reached 1000 on chess.com in 13 days. I haven't done an OTB tournament yet, but I assume FIDE and USCF are stingy with their rating points.

13 days after learning chess? That's more than a little bit suspicious.

Littlemanpaul

it is incredibly dependent on the player and their commitment, for instance, I was rated about 700 a few years ago on chess.com now, although I'm technically not rated 2000 Fide, I did play in a very competitive high school league and whooped a few kids with 1900 Fide and ended with a score of 13-2, so like, for me, going from a 700 to whatever over the board you would put me at now took like 3 years

I had some previous chess knowledge. I knew basic strategy and tactics, but I started taking it seriously for the New Year. I did not start my account as a complete beginner.
