About ten years if you put serious hard work into it.

national master is easier than international, simply because its more local and has lower requirement

Id be happy with National Master, honestly I just dont want to be a push over at Chess. I love the game so much, I am happy when I lose to cunning maneuvers done by my opponents or even if I pull off cunning plays and still lose. That's how i know I love the game because losing does not make me unhappy.

You have to play other grandmasters to be one, and a player rated 1000 would definitely have a hard time beating them. So... a long time with hard work.

I am honestly just curious on how long it would take like a 1000 player to become a grandmaster
5 to 10 years of grueling work and obsessive devotion to the game, along with regular (daily) coaching from a titled master. And even then, it'll be a monumental struggle.
Without regular coaching from a titled master, though, reaching GM is nearly impossible.
The below short essay might be of interest. The best of the best in any pursuit are insanely good. Another great story I can't dig up revolves around a man who quits his job to train to be a speed skater (I believe). Both really well done
