Two. You, and me.
How many active members of chess.com?

Two. You, and me.
I think you might be slightly low. I was thinking at least 5.
I think we can objectively say at least three. Wait, are you still there? Hello?

Let's be serious guys (really).... What sofademon claims is actually true the number of 'active' players (players who get online on a weekly basis) is not so large perhaps some 20,000 players maybe less but no where near the number of 'people who have ever made an account'.

I'm not sure what the basis for inclusion in the list of "active" members is for this purpose, but from my profile page I see this statistic today:
Today's Rank: | #4821 of 304,492 (98.4%) |
So it would appear that by chess.com's definition of "active" there are slightly over 300,000 active members.

I am under the impression that in the statistic that TheGrobe posted, chess.com considers all members who have played at least 5 turnbased rated games.

I was actually under the impression that player rolled off of that list after a period of inactivity, but I could very easily be mistaken. Someone on staff would have to weigh in for the definitive word.

Yeah, it does seem high.
When you consider this:
Iit means that the average number of active games per player, assuming that the 304,492 number is correct, is just under 1.5, which seems low and, to me, would appear to be an indication that the criteria for inclusion in the 300,000 is probably a little too loose.

I have difficulty believing 1/4 million active users.
I think 15k to 25k active users would be a VERY strong website following.
well, I see as many as 10k online at at time, although that is a high and it is often less than that. If I was to throw out a blind guess I would say that 50 thousand people log on at some point each month.

Would be interesting to find out. But Chess.com is #1 by far (in terms of popularity) among chess websites
Chess.com claims over 2.5 million members, but I am sure that is counting everyone who has ever created an account, no matter how long inactive. When I log in I see typically 3-5 thousand people logged in in at at time, with a high of about 10 thousand. Does anyone have any figures on how large the actual active player base is here? By active lets say people who play either online or live chess at least once a month? I know there probably isn't any way to get an exact answer (other than from chess.com, and its probably not in their financial interest to give that number out) but any estimates?
