How many cheaters do people think there are?

I have not encountered a single cheater with my 1000+ games here on Chess.com. Yet, I see topics about cheating all the time... Why?

Cheating can be discussed at https://www.chess.com/club/cheating-forum but not in the forums. -CrystalMoon

Does that mean that you was the cheater in these 1000+ games then?

I agree with TameLava.  I never see cheaters.  The games I lose are because I was outplayed, and the games I win are because my opponent made an error or I outplayed my opponent.

About 30 times more, than are are for real.

The most blatant cheaters are already all banned. 7 years ago there were here a lot of unknown players with top-GM ratings. tongue.png

About 10% based on the people who are banned for fair play violations in three day correspondence I play. I particular recent them because I tend to play quickly and so their cheating negatively impacts on my standing relative to slower moving players who don't suffer so much because of the scum. Players recently joining should be carefully scutinised because they are often on the rebound from previous wrong doing under a new name.

how can you tell if an opponent is cheating? I have had many games that I thought I was playing against a cheater.

TameLava you don't know why? Maybe because they are not banned? I played 2 weeks ago 2 games with a cheater, wrote to chess.com twice, but he is still playing. His tactics is 387, rapid 870 but blitz now is 1682

some people, including myself, get nervous when playing a rapid or blitz game. I have a much easier time when I can think about my move for a few minutes.
