How many games a day would your recommend I play. I study and I’m retired

Do you mean you study chess. This would suggest a degree of seriousness. If so, like all things the more you do it the better you are bound to get. play as many games as you enjoy without neglecting important issues in your life.

I don't think we can answer this out of context.
First of all, what's your goal? If you're just playing to have fun, then do whatever makes you happy. If you're going for long term improvement, then we need more detail about your activities.
You say that you study a lot, and how many games you play, but give us more details. What's your current level of play? What type(s) of study are you doing? Are you reviewing your game with a coach or stronger players?
I will say that for long term improvement, you should be playing slower games than just half an hour. I know NM Dan Heisman, who is a renowned chess coach for class level players, recommends playing with a time control of at least an hour, roughly 100 games per year, for serious improvement. Play slower games, and make sure to actually use your time to think and calculate.

Depends on your goals, your time and whether you have other things to do.
If you analyse them afterwards two 30-minute games a day sound like a lot...

If your goal is to have fun, you can do whatever you like. If you wish to improve, 2 games a day are a lot. You should analyze your games in order to learn something from them, and probably have some time to study chess as well. If you are feeling tired after doing that, you can easily cut down to 1 game every 2-3 days, but make that game a longer one (30 minutes is fine, as I see that is what you are playing), AKA quality over quantity.
The number of chess games you play in a day depends on your personal preferences, time availability, and your goals. If you're studying and retired, you have the flexibility to tailor your chess routine to your liking.
Consider starting with a manageable number, perhaps 3-5 games a day, allowing sufficient time for analysis and reflection after each game. Quality over quantity is crucial for improvement. Use some of your time to study openings, tactics, and endgames as well. As you progress, you can adjust the number of games based on your comfort level and the amount of time you want to dedicate to chess. Balancing play with focused study is key to honing your skills effectively.

To be honest in 2023 I played more than 2000 games. (A lot in rapid because more time lets me think. I’ve also been grinding blitz since I don’t really play it and I was 200 in blitz. I think that it depends on your skill level. If your below one thousand I recommend 1000 games per year (if you play everyday ofc) but if you take breaks every so often I recommend a little lower than 1000 ( 800-900 is good.) For me, I play every day and I play like 6 games. Once I start going on a losing streak I stop for the day. To summarize, it really depends on your skill level. I recommend if your rating is below 1000 then play a lot to improve. Hope this helps!

" to become a grandmaster or im you must play through 500,000 or 1 million master and grandmaster games" that means you to have studied in depth 500k games to be a grandmaster 100k to be fm strength. and retain that knowledge which is very hard to do note that when we study chess. we should have 10k middlegame positions and 1000 endgame positions and the rest openings in our memory playing through master games and evualating positions asking why the grandmaster played that move is great study studying openings is irrevalant unless the opening happened in your game and you learn a mistake you made and you play a better move studying chess has to do with pattern recognition tatics endurance and opening prep knowing how to fool your opponent

if you want to improve play 5 seroius chess games with someone 100 points higher than you and then analyze with a stronger player
