How many moves per hour in Daily Games? How many games?

I read in one of Tim Sawyer's books, when he was a master level correspondence player before the days on online chess, he would make no more than 4 moves per hour.

I think some of that must have been spent setting up the positions on the board and working out the codes to write on the cards.

When it changed to email based correspondence he says he overcommitted by playing about 50 games simultaneously and lost about 100 rating points because he was playing too many rushed moves.

What is a good number of moves for a class player to play per hour in Daily chess games today?

Personally, I probably make about 10 to 15 moves per hour on average. Some moves are made in less than minute, in some critical positions like very tough endgames I sometimes spend half an hour.

What is a good number Daily games to be playing simultaneously? Obviously the more games you play the faster you gain experience, but also more games = less time to think about moves = more blunders.

I tend to find anything above 20 becomes uncomfortable, but I have seen many players who seem to have no problem playing hundreds of daily games.

A local master in my region who specialized in Daily Chess said he only does one tournament at a time (which will equate probably to no more than 12 games at once).  Of course, he is concerned purely with the quality of his play and therefore doesn't elect to have more games than that.

I think a lot about the member @Uzhegov who at one time had about 1400 Daily games going on at once.  This is an extreme example of course, but it shows how having too many games is definitely a detriment to quality (his Daily rating is far below his Rapid).

I tend to go for a smaller amount of games and add more matches when games end or the work load is less complicated. While more games does mean more experience, it doesn't provide value when you use a superficial thought process to make your moves and don't spend time examining your games and working on how to improve. Overloading yourself with daily games is essentially playing a marathon live chess simul.
