A lot of alcohol is trash, but there is also some very good alcohol out there.
American craft beer is at the pinnacle of human accomplishment.

I've made over 99.9% of my live and correspondence moves on this site under the influence of various "substances." I swear if I played sober for a couple days all my ratings would jump at least 200 lol.
My father was a drinker and my ex girlfriend Is a drinker, but I've never liked it. I don't get why someone would want to continue doing something that makes them sick. Alcohol gives me stomach pains and the next day, you sometimes have a headache and feel feverish. I've never encountered this with weed. But, then again, low grade weed can make you feel sick.
I've had wine, beer, anything. It's all the same. As long as it's alcohol it gives me the same affects. The only thing I've had that I like is schnapps
Look, a glass or three of some fine sipping absinthe before a game never hurt no one, but you're never going to really improve your game until you can give bath salts the proverbial try.
Be like Carlsen.... a partier but pure.
From a recent Magnus Carlsen interview:
O.K. Have you ever competed in a chess game drunk? Just in offhand games with friends. You feel a little bit more confident and creative, but my experience is not that I play better. I know people who have actually played serious games when they have been drinking. None of them have recommended it to others.

Smoking marihuana can be good to play chess! It can give you profound insights on the current game, with creative ideas to attack your opponent, while you overlook a tactic and lose a piece.

Or, it makes you think you're playing a winning game, and then you look down and wonder where all your pieces went.
Might help you relax, but it will cause tunnel vision which won't really help when calculating tactical variations
No amount of alcohol is helpful with playing chess.
If someone successfully uses it to play better then he is an alcoholic who tries to maintain a low alcohol level in order to not have withdrawal symptoms.
Alcoholism is a serious problem in Russia, they are by far the #1 country for alcohol abuse and the results are not pretty.
alcohol is trash. How and why do people take this stuff? Marijuana is much better. I haven't played high in a couple months but I'm going to get back into it soon. I remember having some of my most fun and interesting games from a tactical view while stoned. I wouldn't recommend it if you have cheap, low grade weed as that's no better than being drunk.
