How much time do you invest in chess?

I love chess but as we all know chess can be really time consuming depending what activities you do e.g. playing in open tournaments.

When it comes to our community there a variety of different people:

  • some people just enjoy chess in general and play some bullet or blitz here and then online or in their chess club and apart from that don't train that much
  • some people study books to learn tactics, strategy, openings, use online tactics trainer etc. to improve their skills
  • some people are more competitive and play open tournament, team competitions for their chess club etc.
  • some people take part in activities of their chess club, give training to youngsters, organize tournaments or club events ...
  • and so on and so on

Many players fall into one or a combination of these categories.

These days I play less chess than in my youth because of work. Tournaments longer than one day are mostly impossible. But I do regularly visit my chess club on fridays where Rapid and Blitz tournaments take place. Regarding my chess training, at the moment I'm studying endgames with a book on saturdays for about 1-1.5 h.

What about you? How much time and effort do you invest in chess?
