You should spend a majority of your study time engaged in tactical study.

I try to do 20-30 minutes a day + 3/4 games against opponents 50-100 ELO above me.

2500 puzzles is my most in a month which is over 80...and I'm still terrible.

Scottrf

Yeah true, but I never really not what balance to strike between difficulty and seeing a variety of patterns. Because I do learn from experience/recognition but whether that actually improves calculation ability I'm sceptical. My tactics rating has shot up but not really my tactical ability in games...

I only started doing tactics puzzles from mid December last year and I am already seeing benefits... I do 30 mins on the train in the morning, about 30-40 mins during the day on my lunch break, and another 30 mins on the way home. Oh, and then probably another 30-45mins in the evening to wrap up before playing a few games. In a little over 1 month I would guestimate my improvement to be around 100 rating points.

No time at all, if I have a date.

Now on the serious side, not all puzzles are equal. I solve some withing 4-5 seconds, some others within 4-5 hours, and some not at all.

Solve as many as you can before feeling tired. Oh, and don't even think having electronic aid when solving- else you are just wasting your time, as well as several CPU cycles.

Whatever puzzle you are unable to solve, do NOT pass it to the computer. Archive it, and review it after 2-3 months. Chances are that you will be successful at your second/third attempt.

thank u sir for great advice..:)

You should look for tactics in your played games, those are your best fodder for study. This is what I preach in my free video lessons course.  See my website, linked in my about me section of my profile, and look for the free video lessons. The first lesson explains how to improve, following the methods that worked for me.

No, don't use an engine. Just archive the position, and look at it at another date.
