How often do you make a Mistake?

How many mistakes do you make per game, or per x ammount  of games?

Myself and my friend George are always making silly mistakes in our gamers (about 2 a game, unfortunately), and I wondered how we compare to the rest of the chess.com inhabitants.

So, how many mistakes do you make?

Etienne
Well there's different level of mistakes. But I think online I don't do much mistakes as I take all the time I need, have access to opening repertoire, analysis board, or a side board, however live, with time control (or amical game where you don't want to spend more than a minute or two on a move) I do much more mistakes.

Depends on what qualifies as a mistake, and whetehr it's subjective or objective. Subjectively, if I make a move and my opponent takes advantage of it, I made a mistake; if he doesn't, then I didn't. Objectively if a move would theoretically fail, then I made a mistake whether my opponent capitalized on it or not.  I would say I make a lot of very minor mistakes in any given game.  Usually a major mistake effectively ends the game and one is all it takes.

Sorry I guess I didn't term "mistake" correctly. My most common mistakes are overlooking something, usually ending up in me losing my queen :@, those are the sorts of mistakes I am taloking about

I wouldn't consider it a mistake if I make a move, and if my opponent sees my plan, stops it. That isn't a mistake in my books.

i rarely make simple tactical errors, sometimes make major tactical errors, and have no idea how often i make strategic errors (unless they lead to tactical problems).

probably 1 or 2 mistakes a game , depending what position my peices are
MolotovRuss
True sk8erkid, but by saying "depending what position my pieces are in" doesn't make sense, because if they're in a bad position, that's really your failt, so surely that in itself is a mistake.

I am not sure of the quantity.  I do know there are no perfect games because of my faultless playing.  I had my daughter tell me one day that her teacher told her this bit of wisdom.  " There are no mistakes if you correct them".  I suggested to my daughter everytime you receive a B instead of an A ask your teacher if you can have the opportunity to turn the B into an A.  Then I told my daughter that her teacher might mistake that for being sassy, rude, joke that wasn't funny.
MolotovRuss
Very true, but usually I find that I spend the rest of the game correcting that mistake, and countering the advantage my opponent has taken due to that mistake, therefore, I usually find myself resigning.

there are ,of course, varying levels of mistakes from improper positioning, poor development, poor timing, poor pawn development or positioning to the whopper of leaving pieces undefended or not gurading against a mate. i believe i usually make at least one to two mistakes a game, but not usually a major one unless i am tired or rushed(which is a mistake all by itself)!
syrianchessmaster
major mistakes, 1 or 2 a game, but smaller tactical errors, usually under five a game!
joeyson
one mistake every other move

No one plays a "perfect game" with no mistakes, even if you can't even see the mistake. However if you mean blunders that double up my pawns or lose me tempo etc. then I would say about once a game. Blunders like a hung piece would be more like one in twenty games.

Yeah I think I'm about the same.

Most of my mistakes are from me miscalculating an exchange of pieces, or something similar. But I've just found the analysis board here, so I hopefully shouldn't make too many miscalculations online anymore :D

That's very true of me,I too have started to take full advantage of the analysis board :D

"How many mistakes do you make per game, or per x ammount  of games?"

It's hard to say, because in quiet middlegames or complex endgames, there's no simple way to divine the best move.

"My most common mistakes are overlooking something, usually ending up in me losing my queen :@, those are the sorts of mistakes I am taloking about."

In chess lingo, that's known as a blunder. At 2' + 12" blitz against a similarly rated opponent, I probably blunder a piece every dozen games, and miss two or three tactical sequences every game, on average.

alma_eterna
I probably make 1 to 3 fairly serious mistakes or blunders per game.

It's difficult to keep track without a calculator but I'd say I make at least six blunders a game.  It's hard to say because I'm sure I'm making blunders that I'm not even aware of.

I seem to find a better move just about everytime I make a move.
