Obviously not talking from personal experience here, but from what I can tell the best chance someone has is to avoid imbalanced endgames. So the very general plan would be:
- try and keep a symmetrical pawn structure
- avoid trading down to an endgame if possible
- find any possible holes in his opening prep

Even then, you’ve got to understand that Magnus is simply more accurate over longer moves than everyone else on the planet. So the game has to be a quicker one so that this doesn’t end up being a major factor.

I think hikaru understood this at Norway chess - that’s why he played a slightly strange, Uber aggressive king’s gambit in the Armageddon round. Unfortunately for Hikaru, it STILL didn’t work. And if Hikaru can’t do it there aren’t many people in the world who can!

Talk him into playing in a classical chess tournament. The last one he played in he didn't win a single game.
