how to change from unrated to rated in online chess

Hi guys, I'm playing online chess and can't find a way to get  my ratings.  I'm playing 'unrated'  at the moment. Any idea...Laughing

If you are on the app, I think you need to create a custom seek and change the option there. I think it keeps your last set of settings when you do that.

Kittymouse

Thanks Martin....... still lost (perhaps I don't see it), can't find the custom seek.....Embarassed

In the app you go to Play and click the +. The choose Create Challenge. One of the options there is Rated Game. If it isn't green, you toggle the option and then your seek will be rated.

Kittymouse

Thanks again Martin, but I'm not on the app......Embarassed

That's why I asked in my first post.

For Online/Correspondence when you choose Start New Game, one of the dropdown options is labeled Rated, just change that to Yes.

For Live, change the dropdown there to Custom. A link will appear that data Rating Option. Click that and you will be able to change to rated. Once you have that set, you shouldn't need to do that again unless you want to play unrated again.

Kittymouse

Yep, Martin you're right you asked that in your first post.... overlooked it.. however, followed your instruction, changed it rated (again, because it was there in the first place), but I still comes up as unrated. Live is ok, just online doesn't let my play as 'rated'.......  pffff....Cry

You're playing two rated "online" games right now...

DragonWhisperer

Create challenge and change the tab from unrated to rated. Then hit send.

Yes, I'm playing 2 online games with rated players, but I do come up as unrated. I would like to see my ratings........with other words: how do I get my rating?

Ah, that is a different story. You show "unrated" until you play a certain number of games. Though, your rating will change once you complete some. Since you haven't completed games, your base rating is 1200.

Kittymouse

Ok, Martin, that makes sense nowLaughing, but (there is always a but) wouldn't it show at least the base rating of 1200 when you start your first came completed or not completed(as in live)?

Martin_Stahl

At one point it used to. They changed it to show unrated until after 5 games or something like that.

I believe it may have been in conjunction with an app update that allowed new members to choose their skill level on account creation. If they choose expert, it gives an 1800 initial rating but still shows unrated so people will realize that it is a new player.

Kittymouse

Got it...  LaughingThanks so much for your help, Martin.

I accidentally left the "rated" selected before I started a game with my grandson. I used an engine during the game because I was trying to learn how to play against a certain opening. My grandson knew it but I feel bad his rating changed. How do I correct this?

A one-off game probably isn't going to cause an issue. But if you want to be safe, you could open a ticket with support about it

That said, use of an engine against other members, even in unrated when your opponent knows and agrees, is no longer allowed. The policy was recently changed.
