If the text in the file is either PGN or just move pairs, changing the file extention to PGN may allow most programs to open it.
PGN files are plain text.

Hello frnds I had this problem where I was playing chess using an app called Cloudroid nd my games there were saved as. Txt files. I could not open the file to replay the saved games with any app nd neither did I have any way to convert it to. Pgn format at the time.. nd actually I stumbled upon this solution for that.. I used to have an offline chess app called chess for Android by Aart bik which is available in play store to download freely. Using that app I tried to open the. Txt file nd I am happy to say I was successful. I could replay the moves of my games with that app. I could also covert it to. Pgn format using the app nd save it to my internal storage or SD card. So I just felt like sharing my discovery here.. hope it helps someone in need
