I have played against many players who have played phildor defence and I dont know what to play. Does anyone know any tricks or traps?

Just develop pieces and control the center.

The Philidor Defense isn't some gambit line you can outright refute. It is a fairly solid opening which is only less popular today because it is somewhat passive. To play against this opening, just treat it as you would any mainline opening. Following chess opening principles is useful.

This opening is okay for black, but it isn't anything the white pieces should really fear facing either. Here is roughly how I'd handle this position:

The best way to defeat the Philidor defense is to play good chess. There’s no way around it.

Yes, but this is also true for all chess openings; the best was to defeat those openings is also to play good chess. There's no way around it. xD

Some openings just get knocked out (englund )

I was under the impression that OP wanted a quick and easy way to get a clear advantage. It doesn’t exist for the Philidor.

Knowing the Morphy opera game is quite handy and something against the exchange variation I personally prefer 4.Qxd4 which Morphy played as well.
