uhhh yes my opponent lost his temper after misclicking and realizing I didn't want to resign.

Ah yes...more online emotional reacting. Some just have a hard time wearing big boy pants.
Emotions are great indicators. But horrible dictators.
I don't think you really understand that 99% of the reactions that humans have to things are emotional reactions
I’d accept the draw. But I can also tell the difference between an obvious misclick (moving the king instead of castling) and something that isn’t (moving the queen across the entire board to capture a pawn that is defended by my knight).
I would like for my opponents to accept the draw, which is why if I misclick in an even or better position (if I was worse I would simply resign) I always instantly offer a draw, and let them know in chat. If they decline I will just resign, though. I’d be mad, but its their choice.
I don’t offer misclick draws in bullet, nor do I accept them. But I do for blitz and longer.
I wonder if this made sense? I was just rambling and typing the first things that came across my mind.

I think you have a reasonable perspective. If it's an obvious misclick, then show some grace.
It depends on the situation. In rated chess, I'll take the free rating points. It isn't taking it too seriously, it is just that I expect everyone to misclick roughly the same frequency and there is no reason to believe my future opponents will let me take a draw when I misclick; giving draws when my opponent messes up, but them not giving me draws when I mess up puts myself at a disadvantage. I figure that since we all misclick roughly the same amount long-term, all the misclicks will balance out and not significantly impact the ratings of anyone.
However, in unrated chess, depending on who I am playing and the atmosphere, I'd be much more willing to accept a draw. Most of my unrated games come from chess.com friends for learning purposes, so in those games, I'm still trying to win, but the focus in more on learning than winning, so I'd probably accept a draw if unrated.
I never ask for the draw, but if it is a very obvious misclick, I will accept if my opponent asks.
If it's not obviously a misclick - controlling your movements is arguably a part of the skill required to play chess.

that makes a lot of sense to me. I have never even encountered someone who asked if I wanted to a draw when I did an obvious misclick, even after I lamented the day I was born in the chat. So just take the free rating points. everyone else is. it won't matter in the end.
there's no consensus.
Its up to you how you deal with it. My philosophy is to take advantage of their misclick every time because there's been plenty of times i've misclicked and my opponents never had any sympathy or tried to make a draw etc.
So why would I have the same consideration for someone else. Just take advantage of it, or don't, up to you.

What if it's in a prize tourney? is it ethical to take the free piece, or should you accept the draw?

I've decided to be ruthless, take the free points, and drink the tears of my enemies.
Turn off chat and you won't have these problems.
That said, if it was an obvious misclick and they ask for a draw immediately after making it, I may accept. Most of the time, it has not been my experience, though. The vast majority will play on and ask for a draw 20+ moves later when they are getting crushed. At that point, no chance.

Dont people lose in official tournaments? (the ones with the elite players) I swear ive seen people lose because of misclicks, so it applies there and in otb theres touch move

Happens at least once in almost every single Titled Tuesday.

Shankland lost a game in the Olympiad by trying to premove in real life, so it happens OTB as well.
I just finished playing someone who blundered a piece due to a "misclick" and then became offended after I was reluctant to draw in order to compensate him for this error.
What is the general sentiment about this in the online chess community?
My reluctance stems from the fact that nearly any mistake could be conveniently blamed on a misclick. For instance, I have hung peices before and only realized it milliseconds after letting go of the mouse button. Even if the error is truly due to a misclick... i see that as part of the game. Even in OTB you can be forced to move a specific peice because you accidentally touch it. You just suck it up and move on...
Anyways, thoughts?
