have you tried joining a club?

SubmitToMyBishops

One does not have to join a club to get a FIDE id, but it's the best option because without playing in a club it's difficult to improve anyway.

If you like to get an FIDE id except from joining a club you can join the chess federation in whichever country you live in, in your case India.

Then as soon as you pay your yearly fee youll be given a Id and be able to join OTB tournaments and more.

This is a tad cheaper than to join a club as it doesn't support a local club, but only pays the federation.

This of course steals the fellowship that clubs offers when like minded meet typically once every week to play and learn from/ with each other.

It basically means that you do the registration job that the club would've done for you if you joined them instead.

I suspect you're after a id for the FIDE Arena, tell me if I'm wrong:P

Trazaz

i want to play in fide tournaments in india and get a rating , when and where to start?

SubmitToMyBishops

Hi Trazaz, Google the place where you live and local chess club like example "Chess clubs Chenai" and see what comes up.

When you locate your nearest club you may contact them by simply showing up at one of their play nights or by approaching them by mail.

Most of/ if not all clubs of some size (20+ members) have a homepage on the Web containing all the information needed for you to make first time contact.

I hope you found my post informative and that you eventually join a club as it's both educational and superfun to play in tournaments with clocks, notation and everything.

Best of luck!

Trazaz

but will the club ensure that i get a fide rating ? I mean my final goal is to play in fide tournaments,if u get what i mean

SubmitToMyBishops

If you start playing at a club they normally have lots of club tournaments during the year and as soon as you play in one of them you'll be rated.

a side note, FIDE doesn't throw amateur tournaments, the clubs does.

Fide only recieves the results and make rating alterations based on the games you've played.

Trazaz

oh i see thnx a lot

i'm a Malaysian. how can i get a FIDE id?

Ciak

Someone already answered at this question, just read above.

Anyway I can suggest to go at a Chess Tournament event and normally you can Get the ID after the subscrition.

Actually In Kuala Lumpur will start 2 tournaments and at Shah Alam another one, but there's plenty others.

In addition to playing in OTB FIDE rated events, you can join FIDE Online Arena and play there. That will also get you a FIDE Identification Number  (FIN).

Ciak

Just go to fide.com and open an Arena account (25euros) and you will get the FIN.

FIDE ID and FIN are the same thing.  FIN means "Fide Identity Number"... wink.png

I'm not agree with the club who's asking you to be registered trough Indian Federation, you just need a FIN to be part of an open FIDE tournament, nothing more.

You need to contact them.

The  way to get a Fide rating is to do a Fide rated tournament and play with at least 5 fide rated players, and to obtain a minumum numper of points in order to enter with more than 1000 elo points (a single draw could be enough in a lot of cases ). The tournament don't needs to be in the fide calendar, a lot of national or local tournament in europe are Fide rated.

SaSerock, we can't help you, as Martin says just contact them.

Need to contact FIDE, mean specialists who work here? But tournaments in real, offline or online, or doesn't matter?

For the problem mentioned earlier in the topic, the poster was having an issue on the FIDE site and needed to contact them.

For the ID, it doesn't matter; if you play in an OTB or Online FIDE rated tourney, you'll get the ID.
