From what I read in the FIDE Handbook, you need to become affiliated with a national chess federation (NCF) first; then when you show up to a FIDE rated tourney, they will register you for an ID. If you plan to play in such a tourney, contact the TD ahead to expedite the process.
How to get a FIDE ID?

Oh okay I see. It's just that when I was about to join USCF online, it was a field where it said to enter FIDE ID if I had it already.
But yeah, I'll probably sign up to USCF first and inquire about FIDE ID later I guess.
Thanks.
"10.1 To be included in the FIDE Rating List, a player must be registered through a national chess federation which is a member of FIDE, unless otherwise approved by FIDE Council. The Federation must not be temporarily or permanently excluded from membership."

I am interested in getting a FIDE ID before signing up to USCF, but don't know how to get one.
The only contact with FIDE officials is through emails and they don't even respond.
FIDE website shows nothing about it. It's like they don't want people to join smh. Why you're making this hard like ???
Also had another question, what if I show up at a FIDE tournament to play, do they provide me with an ID right then and there?
Sorry if there is already a thread about this xd
